HomeServe USA coverage
Most companies have two to four home warranty plans that cover a combination of home appliances and systems. HomeServe does not cover appliances, but rather major utility lines, like plumbing, electric and gas, and heating and cooling. It has 17 plans to choose from. Here’s the breakdown:
Three plumbing plans
- Exterior water service line coverage
- Exterior sewer/septic line coverage
- Interior plumbing and drainage system coverage
Two electrical plans
- Interior electrical line coverage
- Exterior electrical line coverage
Five heating and cooling plans
- Cooling system coverage
- Heating coverage
- Water heater repair
- Water heater repair and replacement plan
- Gas line coverage
Seven combination plans

- Home comfort plan

- Premium home protection plan
Coverage length
HomeServe USA customers will have a 30-day waiting period between signing up and when coverage actually begins. Coverage is then effective 11 months after it begins.
Coverage exclusions
HomeServe will cover the repair and replacement costs of covered items that break due to normal wear and tear. You’ll have to refer to the terms and conditions of your particular plans to find out what is exactly covered and what isn’t.
HomeServe’s payout limit of $10,000 per term is far more generous than any other home warranty company’s; however, utility line repair and replacement costs are also much more expensive than a broken dishwasher. Here’s a quick rundown of
Heating
- Cost to repair $284
- Cost to replace $4,249
Plumbing
- Cost to repair $305
- Cost to replace $1,038
Electrical
- Cost to repair $317
- Cost to replace $1,287
HomeServe USA claims
When a covered utility line breaks, you can call HomeServe USA at its 24/7 hotline to schedule an appointment with a certified professional.
After approving the claim, HomeServe will dispatch a local, licensed technician to assess the problem. Repairs are guaranteed for one year, except for Surge Plans, which have a 90-day repair guarantee.

More about HomeServe USA
Years in business
HomeServe was established in the UK in 1993. It expanded its services to North America in 2003.
HomeServe USA ratings
As an accredited business, the Better Business Bureau gives HomeServe USA an A+ rating, which is almost unheard of in the home warranty industry. The only other home warranty company that we’ve reviewed that has aced the BBB’s test is 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty.
Consumers Advocate gives HomeServe a 7.6 out of 10, which is very good. It references the company’s 24/7 hotline and one-year repair guarantee in its review, but Consumers Advocate warns customers to read their service agreement closely to understand the plan’s exclusions.
HomeServe USA reviews
Here are a few standout HomeServe USA reviews from the company’s website.
Denice from Willingboro, New Jersey
We turned our central air on for the first time. It was not working properly. Called HomeServe and a technician was at our house within three hours and fixed the central air.
Hui from Grandview, Missouri
Excellent services and fast response. The repairman came within an hour and got the main sewer line unclogged. Cannot be happier.

The service was unbelievable! [I] called late one afternoon and the repair folks were there the very next morning and fixed my problem in less than an hour!
Our conclusion
We give HomeServe 3.25 out of 5 stars. Some value props that make HomeServe stand out include its A+ rating from the BBB, its international presence, 17 plan options priced within an affordable range, a one-year repair guarantee, and a zero-dollar deductible.
So why isn’t it 5 stars? Well, HomeServe doesn’t cover any appliances as every other home warranty company does.
Customers are also limited to about two service calls per term whereas other home warranty companies allow customers to submit an unlimited number of claims.
